What determines the amount of maternity benefit?: The benefit is calculated from the benefit base (average of 12 months before birth, with a cap). For maternity leave you get 100% of the base. The amount is set by ZUS on the basis of contributions.
How many weeks does maternity leave last?: For one child 20 weeks, for two 31, three 33, four 35, five or more 37 weeks. Part can be transferred to the father (parental leave).
Does the calculator include parental leave?: The calculator estimates benefit for maternity leave (100% of base). For parental leave the benefit is 70% or 81.5% if one amount is chosen for the whole period — see ZUS website for details.
What is the maximum benefit base?: The benefit base cannot exceed 250% of average wage (announcement). The calculator applies this cap — above it the result is limited.
