Mediation is a voluntary process in which a neutral mediator helps parties reach an agreement. It is faster and cheaper than court, and works well in family, neighbourhood, employment and business disputes.

A mediation settlement approved by a court has the same force as a court settlement and can be enforced by a bailiff. Without court approval, it is a civil contract binding the parties but not subject to compulsory enforcement.

Yes — mediation proceedings are fully confidential. The mediator does not disclose information to the parties or courts. Statements made during mediation cannot be used as evidence in court. This is one of mediation's key advantages.
